FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Starting a new health journey can bring up a lot of questions  and that’s totally normal! At WellShift, we believe in lasting change, not quick fixes. Our mission is to guide patients through a shift  physically, mentally, and metabolically  using science-backed tools, expert care, and empowering education.

Below, we’ve gathered answers to the most common questions
so you can move forward on your health shift with clarity and confidence.

We get this a lot — and honestly, it’s one of our favorite questions.

At WellShift, we’re not a pill mill, and we’re definitely not just handing out prescriptions and sending you on your way. We’re a clinic built on connection, collaboration, and long-term transformation.

Here’s how we’re different:

✅ Real Support :You’ll work directly with licensed medical professionals and functional medicine experts who actually take time to understand your body, your habits, your goals, and your challenges. We’re your support team, not just a transaction.

✅ More Than Medication : While we can offer GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide, and hormone replacement for the state of Texas, we don’t believe that medication alone creates lasting results. That’s why every member gets lifestyle guidance, nutrition support, and accountability tools to help complete their health shift.

✅ Habit-Focused Transformation: Weight loss and health transformation isn’t just about willpower. It’s about creating better habits, and we help you do that through education, encouragement, and a personalized plan that fits your life.

✅ A Bigger Vision: WellShift was built to change the way health is delivered. Our long-term mission includes bringing together a full team of doctors, coaches, fitness experts, and functional medicine providers, all under one roof, to help people transform their health from every angle. This is just the beginning!

We’re not here to just help you drop pounds. We’re here to help you shift into a better version of yourself, for life!

All medical evaluations, including Good Faith Exams, are conducted by licensed Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) through our trusted third-party clinical partner, SpaKinect. These providers are state-licensed and trained to perform virtual consultations to assess candidacy for treatment.

Once a patient is evaluated, Dr. Chase Kornegay, MD, our Medical Director, reviews and approves all prescriptions and treatment plans to ensure they meet the highest standards of care and safety.

This collaborative model allows us to deliver safe, compliant, and personalized telehealth services across multiple states.

At WellShift, we believe long-term health is built on more than just prescriptions — it requires a foundation of nutrition, movement, and mindset.

Our Functional Medicine Director, Dr. Robert Fredrickson, DC, DNM, CCSP, specializes in lifestyle medicine, sports rehab, and advanced nutritional analysis. He works directly with patients to develop personalized plans that support sustainable weight loss and overall health.

Dr. Fredrickson uses a root-cause approach to assess metabolic health, micronutrient status, and hormone balance. Whether you're starting medication, transitioning off, or exploring non-medication options, he helps design nutrition and fitness strategies that align with your body’s needs — empowering you to create real, lasting change.

Long before we offered GLP-1 medications like semaglutide or tirzepatide, we focused on root-cause, lifestyle-driven weight loss using advanced lab testing, targeted nutrition, and real behavioral change.

If you're looking to lose weight naturally, without the use of peptides or prescriptions, we’ll guide you through a personalized, lab-informed plan built specifically for your body and your goals.

Here’s how it works:

✅ Lab-Based Analysis
We offer both advanced functional testing and basic blood analysis to assess key markers that impact your metabolism—including blood sugar balance, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, hormone levels, thyroid function, and gut health. Unlike traditional approaches, we evaluate your biomarkers using optimal functional ranges, not just “normal” lab values, and we connect those results to your unique symptoms and health history to build a plan that actually works for you.

✅ Lifestyle Medicine Consultation
You'll meet with our Lifestyle Medicine Director to create a custom plan that focuses on healing your metabolism through strategic nutrition, movement, stress reduction, and sleep optimization.

✅ Targeted Supplement Protocol
Based on your labs, we may recommend clinical-grade supplements to help correct deficiencies, support detoxification, or rebalance hormones naturally.

✅ Accountability + Habit Coaching
Through structured check-ins, supportive guidance, and realistic goal setting, we help you build the daily habits that create real, lasting change.

This isn’t a crash course or a fad—it’s a true shift from the inside out, guided by science, grounded in clinical expertise, and focused on lasting results.

A Good Faith Exam (GFE) is a required medical evaluation performed by a licensed healthcare provider to determine whether a patient is a safe and appropriate candidate for prescription treatment.

During the exam, the provider reviews your medical history, current symptoms, and overall health status. You may also be asked to verify your identity and upload documentation (such as a photo ID) before the visit.

That’s why recommend and use the Hume Bluetooth Body Fat Scale, which syncs with your smartphone to provide detailed insights into your body fat percentage, lean body mass, muscle mass, hydration levels, and more.

💪 Why lean body mass matters:
Preserving muscle while losing fat is critical for a healthy metabolism, better energy, and long-term success. Muscle supports your resting metabolic rate, protects against rebound weight gain, and keeps your body strong and functional.

📍 In-Person Patients: We offer this type of scan at our Georgetown, TX location.
🌐 Telehealth Patients: We encourage you to purchase the Hume scale or a similar Bluetooth-enabled model to monitor your lean body mass and fat loss progress from home.

This allows both you and your WellShift provider to track meaningful changes in your body composition, not just your weight, so we can adjust your plan as needed for the best possible results.

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist originally researched for type 2 diabetes and now is used in weight loss. It regulates appetite, slows digestion, reduces cravings, and stabilizes blood sugar to support sustainable weight loss.

Tirzepatide targets both GLP-1 and GIP receptors, enhancing appetite control and insulin sensitivity. It may provide greater weight loss and is used for patients needing extra support or who have plateaued.

Weight loss medication supports reduced cravings, and food noice, but lasting results require a healthy diet and regular exercise, and new habit formation. We provide a comprehensive diet guide to help you succeed.

Yes, there are a few important interactions to be aware of:

⚠️ Semaglutide should NOT be used with insulin products unless specifically approved and monitored by your healthcare provider. Combining these medications can increase the risk of dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), especially in non-diabetic patients.

⚠️ Women using oral contraceptives (birth control pills) should use caution.
GLP-1 medications slow down digestion, which can reduce the absorption of oral medications—including birth control pills. This could make them less effective at preventing pregnancy. If you’re using oral contraceptives and do not wish to become pregnant, speak with your provider about switching to or adding a non-oral contraceptive method while using GLP-1s.

💊 In general, GLP-1s may also affect how other medications are absorbed, especially those that need to be taken with food or act quickly. Your provider will review your medication list carefully before starting any treatment.

Yes, they are—when sourced responsibly. At WellShift, we utilize certified U.S.-based compounding pharmacies that are LegitScript-certified, FDA-registered, and regulated by the DEA. While compounded medications themselves are not individually FDA-approved, the pharmacies we use must still follow strict quality, sterility, and safety protocols set by state and federal regulatory bodies.

These pharmacies compound medications in accordance with physician orders and are held to rigorous standards to ensure purity, accuracy, and safety. We only work with facilities that meet or exceed these industry requirements—because your health and safety are always our top priority.

Semaglutide is the active ingredient in several FDA-approved medications, including Ozempic®, Wegovy®, and Rybelsus®, which are available only with a prescription, however the compounded version is not FDA approved.

Due to current drug shortages, licensed compounding pharmacies are permitted to prepare compounded versions of semaglutide, often with other ingredients like vitamin B12, B6, or glycine. These compounded medications are not FDA-approved but may be prescribed by licensed healthcare providers when appropriate.

At WellShift, we do not sell or compound any medications directly. All prescriptions are written only after a licensed provider determines candidacy, and medications are dispensed by a licensed, FDA-registered pharmacy, that is also legit script certified.

Clinical trials show average weight loss of 12–15% over about a year. Some achieve up to 20% with commitment and lifestyle changes.

We personalize dosing, but here’s a general outline:

Semaglutide:

  • 0.25 mg: Initial dose (2-4 weeks)

  • 0.50 mg: ~4 weeks

  • 1.0 mg: ~4 weeks

  • 1.7 – 2.5 mg: Gradual increases as needed

Tirzepatide:

  • 2.5 mg: Starting dose (~1 month)

  • 5.0 mg: 1–2 months

  • 7.5 mg: 1–2 months

  • 10, 12.5, 15 mg: As needed (max 15 mg/week)

We monitor closely to ensure safety and effectiveness.

Not necessarily. Some patients stay on long-term; others taper or stop after building strong lifestyle habits.

Some patients may not experience hunger suppression or weight loss. We collaborate closely to explore alternatives and tailor your care plan.

Yes, while GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide are safe and effective for many people, there are certain health conditions that may disqualify you or require extra caution.

🚫 You may NOT be a candidate if you have:

  • A personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)

  • A rare endocrine condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)

  • A history of pancreatitis

  • Active gallbladder disease or severe gastrointestinal disorders

  • Uncontrolled diabetes or are currently on insulin therapy (without close provider supervision)

  • Current pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • A history of disordered eating or malnutrition

⚠️ Our providers will also review other medications you may be taking to assess for interactions or contraindications.

Your safety is our top priority. That’s why every WellShift patient undergoes a full medical screening before beginning any medication. If GLP-1s aren’t a good fit for you, we offer non-medication-based weight loss programs focused on functional medicine, lifestyle support, and personalized nutrition.

Common side effects include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, or upset stomach. We use a slow, monitored dosing approach to minimize these.

We are cash-pay only, but you can use HSA or FSA accounts.

Yes, via secure patient portals or scheduled follow-ups.

We verify identity with photo ID checks and secure protocols during your virtual exam.

Consent is collected electronically before treatment or prescriptions.

You can use an online tool like the Army Body Fat Calculator found online to enter with your height and weight to see your current BMI.

We use HIPAA-compliant platforms to protect your health information.

Due to legal restrictions in Texas, refunds are not allowed once medication ships. You are however able to cancel a membership anytime 10 days before your medication ships to avoid being charged for the next month.
