Founder of WellShift Health

Dr. Robert Fredrickson is a Dad, Doctor, Educator, Author, and Speaker dedicated to helping people take control of their health through modern, root-cause medicine.

As the founder of WellShift Health, his mission is to help patients optimize metabolic health, balance hormones, improve energy, and prevent chronic disease using advanced diagnostics, functional medicine, and personalized care.

Dr. Fredrickson has also worked alongside some of the largest integrative and functional medicine clinics in the country, helping train clinicians, develop clinical nutrition strategies, and bring evidence-based functional medicine tools to more patients.

But before he was educating clinicians, speaking at conferences, or writing about micronutrient health, Dr. Fredrickson’s journey into functional medicine began with a personal health challenge that reshaped his entire view of medicine.

Dad First

At the center of everything Dr. Fredrickson does is his role as a father to two boys.

When he’s not seeing patients or researching new health strategies, you’ll most likely find him on a baseball field, basketball court, or football sideline. Staying active, training, and competing alongside his kids isn’t just something he recommends—it’s the way he lives.

Health, to him, isn’t about chasing perfect lab numbers.
It’s about having the energy, mobility, and resilience to fully show up for the moments that matter most.

That philosophy ultimately led to the creation of WellShift Health.

A Personal Health Wake-Up Call

Early in his career practicing sports medicine, Dr. Fredrickson began experiencing unexplained chronic pain, fatigue, and severe hand pain that seemed to appear out of nowhere.

After numerous conventional doctor visits, imaging, tests, medications, and appointments where he was told “everything looks normal,” he knew something wasn’t right.

Determined to find answers, he ran deeper lab work and discovered elevated rheumatoid markers, a condition that runs in his family. As a child, he watched his grandmother struggle with the debilitating effects of advanced rheumatoid arthritis.

At the time, he was also a new father, and the possibility of developing a chronic autoimmune condition forced him to rethink everything he thought he knew about healthcare.

Discovering Functional Medicine

One of Dr. Fredrickson’s own patients recommended he see a functional medicine practitioner.

That appointment changed everything.

Instead of focusing solely on symptoms, the practitioner used advanced diagnostic testing to evaluate micronutrient status, inflammatory markers, metabolic health, and lifestyle factors, and to create a personalized plan.

For the first time, Dr. Fredrickson experienced the power of:

  • Root-cause medicine
  • Precision lab testing
  • Clinical-grade nutrition
  • Personalized health strategies

Within months, his symptoms improved, energy returned, and lab values normalized.

That experience reshaped his entire philosophy of healthcare.

A Mission to Improve Healthcare

Dr. Fredrickson realized that the traditional healthcare system often waits until the disease is advanced and diagnosable before acting or preventing.

Routine lab testing frequently misses early dysfunction.
Insurance coverage often prioritizes treatment rather than prevention.

He believes healthcare must move beyond simply treating disease and toward optimizing health, longevity, and human performance.

That philosophy became the foundation of WellShift.

The WellShift Vision

Dr. Fredrickson founded WellShift to create a different model of healthcare—one focused on prevention, optimization, and long-term vitality.

WellShift combines modern diagnostic testing with functional and integrative medicine to help patients identify and correct the root causes of health challenges before they progress into chronic disease.

The goal is not simply symptom relief.
It is helping patients build a long-term foundation for metabolic health, energy, and longevity.

The WellShift Health Framework

One of the core principles of WellShift Health is that advanced therapies should enhance great health habits—not replace them.

While modern therapies such as peptide treatments, metabolic therapies, and hormone optimization can be powerful tools, Dr. Fredrickson believes they must be built on a strong foundation.

Every WellShift patient begins with a framework focused on the fundamentals of human health:

• Fitness and physical activity
• Nutrition and metabolic health
• Sleep quality and recovery
• Stress management and nervous system health
• Mental and emotional well-being

Advanced therapies—including peptides—are used strategically after the foundation is in place, helping patients accelerate progress rather than compensate for unhealthy habits.

This balanced approach ensures patients achieve sustainable results rather than short-term fixes.
